Position Description

Location: Yellow Springs, Ohio
 
Summary:  The Financial Manager oversees the Morgan Family Foundation’s monetary resources with respect to administration and grantmaking.  The financial manager is primarily responsible for the quarterly financial statements; budgeting; cash flow management for operational activities; and various financial analyses and projections.  This position reports to the executive director.

Responsibilities: 
Financial Management

  • Supervise preparation of quarterly financial statements
  • Create annual budget draft and incorporate revisions as needed
  • Report on and analyze variances in operating budget
  • Project cash needs and facilitate cash transfers
  • Aid in calculation of minimum payout on rolling basis, investigate possible move to different methodology for  determining grants budget other than minimum required payout
  • Prepare special reports as needed/requested (5-year financial plans, cash flows, projections, etc.)
  • Provide a financial assessment of grantseekers’ applications and/or grantees’ reports as requested by program officers or the executive director
  • Develop and oversee maintenance of written policies and procedures regarding the foundation’s financial management 
  • Manage work with outside accounting firm on agreed-upon procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree a plus
  • Minimum of four years work experience in financial administration or accounting, preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to translate and teach financial concepts 
  • Excellent people skills, including the ability to work effectively and respectfully with the board, staff, representatives of nonprofit organizations and professional colleagues
  • Solid computer skills, particularly in QuickBooks, Excel, Word and Outlook (email) 
  • Self-motivated, highly dependable, excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to go up and down a flight of steps with paperwork; occasional air and car travel
Staff position is estimated to be ~0.40 FTE with high variability of hours required throughout year.
