Impact Areas
As Ohio’s leading voice and premiere resource, OGF is committed to helping its members fulfill their charitable goals. It does so by providing opportunities for trustees and staff to network, build skills, enhance knowledge and demonstrate leadership.
OGF is the forum for funders to exchange information, discuss common interests, learn about relevant issues, hone their grantmaking skills and establish networks of important relationships across the state. Through its programs and services, OGF helps funders become more effective grantmakers. |
Networking - Closer is better
With so many of Ohio’s grantmakers focusing their giving on local communities, the opportunity to connect in person and electronically with other funders is a key benefit of OGF membership. At OGF events, diverse groups of grantmakers learn from each other and establish local and extended networks, identifying others with similar interests and challenges. "By sharing my experience with others, I become a better grantmaker and a more valued resource to my company," said a corporate foundation member.
Skill Building - Right in your own backyard
OGF members can increase their grantmaking skills in everything from governance to grantmaking and investments without leaving Ohio. Funders access programs designed to develop expertise while saving on travel time and costs, with events offered regionally, via webinar and statewide. "OGF has helped me grow as a grantmaker through practical ‘how to’ programs," commented a community foundation member. Members also build skills at constituency-specific programs for staff and trustees of private, community and corporate grantmaking organizations.
Knowledge - Ohio focused, Ohio relevant
OGF offers information on Ohio issues, trends and policies as well as how national trends and issues play out in the state. Electronic updates, quarterly newsletters and reports bring the latest news to members. "OGF’s communications keep me well-informed about news, research and issues that impact my grantmaking," stated one private foundation trustee. Online, the OGF website allows access to the best knowledge resources, such as sample documents, policies and forms.
Leadership - Advocating for grantmakers
As the leading voice for organized philanthropy in the state, OGF informs external audiences such as media and policymakers about the role and impact of Ohio grantmakers. OGF advocates on behalf of grantmakers to promote philanthropic giving and to maintain a supportive environment for philanthropy. Convening members around key issues is yet another way OGF fills its leadership role. "I rely on OGF to help elected officials and others understand the value and roles of philanthropy; I appreciate its convening role," explained a community foundation leader.
